The Safety at Streetworks and Road Works Code of Practice is now available to purchase from HMSO and other bookshops.  This revision will bring the Code of Practice up to date with current legislation and also allow for the amendments to the Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 2001 when it is published shortly.   To view the documents you will need to have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed. Errors in the New Code of Practice
The following errors should be noted from the first printed version.

  • The Code of Practice will now become effective as of 1st February 2002.

  • Page 4 - Line four - Replace 174 with 124.

  • Pages 31,43 and 59 - the road narrows sign in the bottom right corner should be the other way around (road narrows from the right).

  • Page 37 - small road narrows on the left should be the same as the large sign shown above it, road narrows from the right.

  • Page 50 - The top supplementary arrow plate shown below the Road works Ahead sign should be pointing the other way around towards the works.

  • Page 55 - Distance from the taper to the first sign (Road Works Ahead) should read 25 to 40 metres not 23 to 46.
